I have had this recipe for a while and have altered it over time to suit my family’s taste, such as using yogurt as a substitute for some of the butter content required by most sugar cookie recipes. I love baking cookies with my 3-year-old son and this recipe is perfect for us. The ingredients are all things I usually have on hand and the directions are so simple that it’s an easy afternoon activity to do with a preschooler. My son particularly enjoys spooning the batter onto the cookie sheets and decorating the cookies with sprinkles.
Ingredients:
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups sugar
¼ cup plain yogurt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons milk
3 cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
sprinkles for decoration (optional)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Cream the butter and gradually add the sugar until well blended. Add the yogurt, eggs, vanilla, and milk. Beat thoroughly with a whisk.
In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder together. Add the flour mixture to the first mixture and blend well. Arrange by tablespoonfuls on greased cookie sheets.
Decorate cookies with festive sprinkles and bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cookies cool on cooling racks. Makes about 4 dozen cookies. Enjoy the cookies!
